Everyone has seen the videos on Facebook.. someone you know gets splatted in the face with a pile of squirty cream and it’s pretty hilarious- I mean, what’s not to love about someone getting a cream ‘pie’ in their face? If you’re bored with the standard Pie Face game, or perhaps you just want the extra challenge then you should look up Pie Face Showdown. Created by the same design team at Hasbro it is available from The Entertainer who kindly sent us a copy to review our thoughts and of course, share our hilarious creamings…
For the last few weeks I had been eyeing up the game, so when I received an email asking us to review the game and also hold a party night for the family, I jumped at the chance. I knew the kids would love the game, it’s perfect for all the family, easy and also really, really funny.
The Entertainer not only sent us the Pie Face Showdown game, but also a wonderful party pack, for some lovely family party fun. The contents of this will be saved for Willow’s tea party in a few weeks, what better time to whip (excuse the pun) the cream out and Pie Face our family and friends?! We decided however to take the game round to my best friend Caroline’s house for some Sunday afternoon fun. I knew Caroline would like the game, she is just as silly as we are and I thought that a few practice games before the big party night couldn’t do any harm!!
The cream obviously does not come with the game, but if you prefer you can use the sponge (provided) and get whacked with a wet sponge instead, just as unpleasant but not half as funny. Setting up the game was easy, until I found the sponge. I followed the instructions to wet it and add it to the hand, then realised it is to be used instead of cream. Apologies to Willow who endured both of those items, lets just say there may have been a few tears..
The nature of the game is simple. Hit the button and fight against your opponent to try cream pie them in the face. Nothing else, no skill, general knowledge or faffy board games to endure. It’s fast, hectic and sticky, all you need for a good time!?!
Simply choose your opponent, pile on the cream, stick your chin on the rest and then.. GO! It’s every man for himself. Here’s Caroline and Gabriel just before poor Gabriel was cream pied! Sorry about the lack of photos, it’s difficult to hold the camera still whilst laughing so much! Anyway, below is when Gabriel beat me… as you can see, the cream doesn’t go ‘everywhere’ so don’t be concerned about mess. A few baby wipes close by wouldn’t go amiss however, to clean up your face and hands (and the arm of the game).
Granted, after a few goes the point of the game could perhaps become a little dull but what’s good about it is that it would be fairly easy to add another dimension to the the rules, perhaps a dice or some questions? This would make the game more complex for older players and maybe add some further tension for adults, rather than just hammering the button to ensure you don’t get creamed. (Not me, honest) Anyway, that’s just my opinion, but I think there are quite a lot of possibilities to keep the game, fresh and fun!
All about Pie Face Showdown…. according to the box
- Pie-throwing arm could go off at any moment.
- Hilarious family fun.
- Easy to set up and clean.
- Includes sponge or use your own whipped cream.
- For 2 players.
- Adult assembly and supervision required.
- Choking Hazard — Small parts. Not for children under 3 years.
Overall, I’d recommend Pie Face Showdown, but don’t expect anything complex. It’s an hour’s fun at best but at a party would be hilarious and with a tournament would be really good fun. If you know any kids this Christmas who you are struggling to buy for, why not treat them to this game? (Currently £25) Or check out The Entertainer website for further inspiration!
